becomes a reality that climate change is unavoidable phenomenon including the resulted impacts. Many disaster occure due to climate change. Two of them are landslide, which happens frequently because of the increasing extremely of rainfall in rainy season, and cyclone. Both of them cause negative impacts for the community materially and immaterially, especially for low-income communities.
Tandang Village Semarang City, dominated by topography with 15-24% and more, is one of 40 village which are vulnerable and has a high risk to landslide and cyclone. In 2002 and 2008, this village was destroyed by landslide disaster. In 2005 and 2008, this village had experience to be destroyed again by cyclone. There are several deaths and financial losses caused by the disaster. The problem is exacerbated because there is no way so far for preparing or preventing for that threats. Refers to the above condition, it is urgent to seek the increasing of Tandang Village community resilience and adaptation in facing landslide and cyclone disaster in order to minimize the number of victims and losses.
The aims of this project which is sponsored by Mercy Corps is to organize the community to be more ready in adopting Early Warning System in order to increase community resilience in facing landslide and cyclone disaster, by: 1. Preparing the formation of disaster preparedness committe in local level and local action plan; 2. Implementing the landslide disaster handling with vegetation. see more http://www.p5undip.org
